# GitLab

The GitLab driver inventories projects visible under a configured group. It supports GitLab.com and approved public HTTPS endpoints for self-managed GitLab.

## Required values

| Type          | Field      | Example                                  |
| ------------- | ---------- | ---------------------------------------- |
| Configuration | `base_url` | `https://gitlab.com/api/v4`              |
| Configuration | `group`    | `platform/team`                          |
| Secret        | `token`    | Personal, project, or group access token |

## Provider preparation

1. Create a dedicated token with `read_api` permission.
2. Restrict the token to the required group or project scope when possible.
3. For self-managed GitLab, confirm the API is reachable through public HTTPS from Kangal.

## Configure Kangal

1. Open **Integrations** and select **GitLab**.
2. Enter the API v4 base URL.
3. Enter the full group path.
4. Enter the token in the secret field.
5. Save and run a sync.

## Common failures

* **401:** invalid or expired token.
* **403:** missing `read_api` access or restricted group visibility.
* **404:** incorrect group path or the group is not visible to the token.
* **TLS/network error:** the self-managed endpoint is not reachable or trusted.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.kangal.dev/integrations/gitlab.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
